Small dog still has 2 fleas after shampoo. what to do next?

Asked: Small dog still has 2 fleas after shampoo. what to do next?He's about 8 years old. There was a stray cat hanging around the front step, so I'm guessing that's how he got the few fleas I saw. I tried miracle coat's flea and tick shampoo which made three fleas drop dead. However a few hours later and I noticed a flea by his tail. Do I really need to get front? Is there anything I can do that will keep them off him without too much chemicals? Everyone is always handling
